Good Ole' Boy

by PamFord Davis

You likely know him…

He’s a good ole’ boy. He earns an honest living, provides for his family, contributes to society and loves his country. The good ole’ boy would never intentionally wrong anyone. We all wish there were more like him. He has stored a list of don’ts to memory and faithfully avoids those activities. We applaud him but how much ‘good’ is he doing?

Jesus, God the Son is goodness personified.

“The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all— that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:36-38 NKJV).”

As He walked the earth, Jesus always pleased the Father. Going, He shared the message of repentance and worked miracles. He was doing good.

God the Father was with Him and gave witness of His approval.

“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him (Matthew 17:5 NKJV).”

Good ole’ boys (and gals) can please the heavenly Father too.

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord (Matthew 25:21 NKJV).”
